Can Jacksonville find new life with Lawrence at No.1?

The Jaguars ended the 2020 season with a 1-15 record. This solidified their position at number one in a draft that sees a lot of QB talent available. Trevor Lawrence is clearly the number one choice out there. In 3 years at Clemson he has amassed more than 10,000 passing yards. 90 touchdowns with only 17 interceptions in over 1,100 attempts. Why is this important? Well, the Jaguars are in desperate need of some offense. Breaking down performance by games, they were outscored by 10 points on average/game never mind the lopsided 277 points versus their opponents 453. Touchdowns? They scored 33 all season versus their opponents 52. The saying “Offense wins games, and defense wins championships” is well known in the sports world. The Jags have to score points to win those games and clearly there are more factors that need to be addressed.

With that being said, Jacksonville has 2 picks in the first round (1,25) with one not far behind at (33) in the second round. Can the Jaguars climb out of the pits of their previous losing season? Trevor Lawrence has the skills to make this happen, the question is can they build a team around him now? This isn’t to say that they don’t have stars already on the team. Josh Allen at Defensive End, DJ Chark Jr at Wide Receiver add firepower to both sides of the ball. Picking a Quarterback at number one doesn’t always solve every problem. With every rebuilding, you always need the first step to be made and picking Lawrence at number 1 is not a bad way start.
